Night of Festivals 2012

Night of Festivals 2012 will take place from 21-23 June 2012 with a focused hub of activity in the special surroundings of Nottingham’s Old Market Square – the largest open public square in the UK. The wonderful environment of the Square will be embellished with extraordinary new installations (including the world’s smallest moving image gallery, the ArtReach Nanoplex), a large scale live music stage and Big Screen.

Many extraordinary artists will be contributing to Night of Festivals 2012, including Haitian sculptors Atis Rezistans and the amazing carnival company Mandinga Arts. It is appropriate that Night of Festivals 2012 presents artists and work from many different cultures in the year when London stages the Olympic and Paralympics Games and “welcomes the world to the UK”. The timing for Night of Festivals 2012 is planned to lead into The London 2012 Torch Relay celebrations in Nottingham at the end of June and then later in the year will link into the World Young Artists Event in Nottingham in September. Night of Festivals 2012 activities will also reach into key venues around the city such as Nottingham Contemporary and the New Art Exchange (both of which will be exhibiting material specifically as part of the project).

A key date for Night of Festivals 2012 is Friday 22 June when a spectacular, colourful, vibrant and energetic carnival procession will wind through the streets of Nottingham encompassing a taste of both Rio and the Caribbean with floats, live samba, “rara” music, and lavish, colourful costumes.
