About
Night of Festivals
Night of Festivals is a unique festival concept devised and produced by ArtReach. It is about celebrating freedom and independence through innovative art and artistic inspiration.
The inaugural event Night of Festivals 2010 took place in Nottingham from 16-18 September 2010. It fused contemporary art installation, moving image, carnival procession and live music in celebration of the Bicentenary of Latin American Independence and the centenary of the Mexican Revolution.
Night of Festivals 2010 was one of the outstanding projects granted the London 2012 Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme which recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games.
Night of Festivals 2010 sought to draw connections with and between local communities and 21st century world culture and provided unique opportunities to engage in Latin American culture. Laura Belém’s interactive installation Night of St John, which recalled the sights and sounds of Brazilian Festival, and looked ahead to the 2016 Games in Rio was meticulously fabricated by local City Arts volunteers. The PachaMama carnival procession led by Mandinga Arts and Paraiso School of Samba, was choreographed with local participants who paraded the streets of Nottingham as extravagant characters from the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations.

Night of Festivals 2010 was produced with support from Arts Council England, Igniting Ambition (through the Legacy Trust UK), Nottingham City Council and the Brazilian Embassy. The project was Part-Financed by the European Union.
