ALINKA ECHEVERRÍA

Alinka Echeverría is an emerging visual artist from Mexico. Her work lies in the crossroads between fine art and visual ethnography. In 2008 she obtained a graduate certificate from The International Center of Photography in New York and has M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from The University of Edinburgh (2004).
Alinka has exhibited in over twenty international exhibitions, including Faccia Lei – 52nd Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art (2007), What We Saw – Pingyao Photo Festival in China (2008), Las Americas Latinas: Las Fatigas del Querer – Spazio Oberdan in Milan (2009), In Stitches – Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery in New York, (2009), Getty Images Gallery London (2009). She is currently a nominee for the Joop Swart Masterclass of the World Press Photo Foundation.
For Night of Festivals 2010, Alinka presents Lightness of Being:
“This is an underwater poem. As the sole underwater spectator, the ceremonies of synchronized swimming practices, where bodies were moving in seemingly impossible ways, became for me a tableau vivant, rich in symbolism; a metaphor for liberation from earthly constraints and emancipation from physical and psychological barriers.” Alinka Echeverría
