JOHN PERIVOLARIS
John Perivolaris is an independent documentary and fine art photographer, curator, writer and researcher with a background in Hispanic cultural and visual studies. Since 2003 he has worked with migrant communities in Spain, resulting in a growing body of work exploring the migrant experience.
Between 2007 and 2008 Perivolaris lead the Image Makers’ Sub-Group, to promote work in the visual arts by migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the East Midlands.
John Perivolaris has recently been commissioned to undertake a project in 2010 entitled North to North: A Journey in Postcards from Manchester to the Maghreb www.cornerhouse.org/northtonorth), which will be exhibited at the Cornerhouse Gallery, Manchester, in April-May 2011.
During Night of Festivals 2010, Perivolaris’s most recent exhibition project, Retratos de Independencia: Bicentennial Portraits of Latin American Women in England, will be showing at New Art Exchange. A series of photographs and video interviews, exploring what independence means to Latin American women living and working in the UK today, the exhibition is part of a research project at the University of Nottingham, directed by Catherine Davies, funded by Arts and Humanities Research Council and presented at New Art Exchange from 13 September – 2 October 2010 as part of their Latin programme supporting the Bicentenary year.
