MARIA LUCIA CATTANI

Maria Lucia Cattani lives and works in Brazil. She is internationally renowned for her video and site-specific works and recent exhibitions include elle@pompidou, Pompidou Centre, 2010; Archive and Innovate, ELO_AI Gallery, Providence, Rhode Island, USA, 2010, and 7ª Bienal do Mercosul, Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil, 2010.
Maria Lucia Cattani’s videos incorporate the randomness of nature or, more precisely, the unpredictability of its movements. The artist films random images of nature and, on the basis of those images, finds a certain rhythm or sequence which she explores to open up new possibilities. Her work demonstrates that, despite the fact we move seemingly within our own sphere, it is through this movement and our everyday enactments that we, like nature interrelate, surpassing both physical and geographical borders.
For Night of Festivals 2010 Maria presents o o o
In this video, Maria establishes a dialogue between nature and geometry using video images and animation. Radiating circles formed by stones dropping into water, create a new drawn canvas, mapping the spheres of our existence and the making of new relationships.
