The upcoming arts extravaganza, Night of Festivals Carnival, is seeking enthusiastic children and young people to help parade its unique Magna Carta procession in Hounslow town centre over the weekend of the 11th and 12th July. ArtReach, the organiser, is planning to include a Giant King John Puppet and a huge facsimile of the Magna Carta parchment (with a modern twist!) in its Carnival festivities in Hounslow. ArtReach needs groups of children (7-13) and groups of young people (14-21) of 8 or more to help to deliver this fantastic procession alongside Carnival. Interested group leaders should contact David Hill (david@artreach.biz or call 01628 675800).

Young participants would be part of a nation-wide celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta, which helps to remind us of our proud democratic heritage. As well as the historical celebrations, Night of Festivals Hounslow will also showcase the thoughts and ideas of today’s local young people. The 20 metre long Magna Carta parchment will exhibit a ‘modern’ take on the ideas of freedom and democracy on top of the copied historical text…a kind of contemporary Magna Carta! Alongside this parchment, young people would help to carry the intricately made King John seal and will follow the grandiose King John puppet through the town, whilst being accompanied by live musicians.
The group of young volunteers will meet at 1pm at the Treaty Centre and will be briefed, as well as meeting the King John figure. The procession will then take place at 2pm and will run for 45 minutes through the town centre. ArtReach is looking for 20 participants of each age group, each day, of the weekend. Night of Festivals Hounslow is set to be a fantastic free family event on the 11th and 12th July; parents, families and friends of participants will be able to follow the Magna Carta procession, as well as enjoy all the other Carnival activity happening in the town over the weekend.
This event has been made possible by ‘Inspire Hounslow’ and ‘Cultural Community Solutions.’
